Examining the level of environmental awareness of Jawzjan University students

Abstract

This research has been conducted with the aim of examining the environmental awareness level of the students at Jawzjan University (JU) and enhancing their knowledge in the better utilization of natural resources. The research method used is considered promotional based on the nature of the data, which is analytical-inferential. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire tool in the form of field surveys. The statistical population of this research includes the students of Jawzjan University, from whom 100 individuals were randomly selected as sample. To evaluate the reliability of the questionnaire, Cronbach's Alpha (CA) coefficient was used, which indicates the satisfactory reliability of the tool used. The results show that 4 percent of the students have no awareness of environmental issues, 11 percent have very low awareness, 12 percent have low awareness, 37 percent have moderate awareness, and 36 percent have high awareness. Additionally, the level of environmental awareness varies among the seven faculties, with students from the Faculty of Geology and Mines having the highest level of awareness, while students from the Faculty of Education have the lowest level of awareness. These findings indicate the need to strengthen environmental education in universities and implement awareness programs. Especially, the development of educational programs can be effective in increasing students' awareness and the culture of environmental protection, thereby preparing the country's youth to face upcoming environmental challenges.
