Abstract

Diesel fuel is a fundamental energy source for transportation, industrial, and agricultural machinery worldwide. The quality of these fuels is of great importance in terms of engine performance, energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and economic results. This study identifies and evaluates the physical and chemical factors that directly affect the quality of diesel and engine performance. In this study, cetane number, sulfur content, viscosity, flash point, density, freezing properties, lubricity, stability, contaminants, and temperature, which determine the quality of diesel and directly affect engine performance, have been scientifically analyzed. In addition, in this study, the quality assessment of diesel using international standards such as ASTM and ISO methods for quality assessment and the applicable standards for Afghanistan have been discussed. The results show that the aforementioned factors play a very important role in diesel combustion efficiency, engine performance, air pollution levels, and energy consumption. This study provides students, researchers, and policymakers in the fields of energy, environment, and mechanics with important scientific information and analytical insights on diesel fuel quality and diesel engine performance that can be used to effectively improve quality, engine performance, engine maintenance, and environmental protection.
